The Physician and the Thespian

Our 2011-2012 training is in full swing.  Guru Eidal from Bergen, Norway has been busy since September learning the fall training process, the Two Rivers trails, and having fun adventuring in the area with neighbor Kay.  Guru (pronounced Guroe) is a third year Medical student with a semester off so she will be with us until early January.  She has traveled to Alaska several times before, exploring the wilderness in winter and summer; Guro really loves to get off the beaten track.   Both Devan and I have enjoyed getting to know her and the dogs have really benefited from her love and attention.

This past week Mari Troshinski also arrived for the season.  Mari (pronounced Marie) has many years of mushing experience having trained with the likes of Martin Buser and Mitch Seavey and run races such as the Jr. Iditarod and Copper Basin 300.  Mari graduated a few years back with a degrees in Theater and English and has been operating her own video editing enterprise lately.  Other than mushing, she enjoys reading, movies, and playing with Koby, her Chesapeake boy.  I'm expecting both Mari and Guro will make a great contribution to our Yukon Quest and a fun 2011-2012 season.
